26 years old Sriwijaya Air plane, what's the limit?

Jakarta - The age of the fallen Sriwijaya.Air plane is in the spotlight. This is because  . plane on the Jakarta-Pontianak route is 26 years old. So, what is the age limit for aircraft operations in Indonesia? Chairman of the Indonesian National Air Carriers Association (INACA), Denon Prawiraatmadja explained, in general there is no age limit for aircraft operating. According to him, if anyone determines it is the manufacture. "In Indonesia and other countries there is no age limit for the aircraft, indeed if the age limit of the aircraft, if any, determines manufacturing," he told detikcom, Sunday (10/1/2021). He explained that there is no link between age and aircraft eligibility. He said the feasibility of the aircraft itself is routinely checked by airlines and then checked by regulators, in this case the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub). "If the eligibility determines the Ministry of Transportation, whether it is feasible or not, it is determined by Airworthy from the DKPPU so as not to misunderstand," he said. This was also expressed by Ocean Aviation Observer Sukardi. He said, the maximum aircraft entered or purchased in Indonesia is a maximum of 20 years. However, there is no age limit for future operations. "If you are already in Indonesia, if I'm not mistaken, you can, not limited, want 21-22 (years) as long as the maintenance is good so that there is maintenance, if he is treated at GMF, GMF can say that it is still flying," he explained. He explained that the reason airlines do not use old planes is usually related to fuel consumption. According to him, the newer the plane, the more efficient it is. "For Singapore Airlines he has a maximum of 5 years, 5 years he sells and buys a new one," he added.
Sriwijaya Air's Boeing 737-500 aircraft with flight number SJ-182 crashed in the waters of the Thousand Islands on Saturday afternoon (9/1/2021) after previously losing contact after takeoff. This tragic incident began when the Sriwijaya Air plane registration number PK-CLC on the Jakarta-Pontianak route lost contact on Saturday at 14:40 WIB and crashed in the waters of the Thousand Islands between Lancang Island and Laki Island. The Boeing 737-500 aircraft lost contact at a position 11 nautical miles north of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, after passing an altitude of 11,000 feet and at the time of increasing its altitude at 13,000 feet.
The latest news is that the Integrated National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Integrated Post until Monday (11/1/2021) has received 21 bags containing the body parts of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 victims. Basarnas Public Relations Yusuf Latif explained that the ship from the Metro Jaya Police Water Police at 3:00 p.m. WIB had handed over a bag containing 14 body parts that had been collected from the raid on Lancang Island and Laki Island, Thousand Islands since Sunday (10/1/2021). In addition to the bag containing 14 parts of the victim's body, said Yusuf, the Air Police also handed over several bags containing 53 properties of the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 aircraft. In the midst of the ongoing search, there were various testimonies from residents about the gripping seconds of the crash of the plane carrying 62 people. The following are various testimonies from the moment of the fall of Sriwijaya Air:

1. The Regent Receives Information that a Plane Falls and Explodes on Male Island The Regent of the Thousand Islands, Junaedi, said that he received information that said a plane had crashed around Male Island, Thousand Islands. 2. Fishermen Hear Bangs Testimonies also came from fishermen. The fishermen at Tanjung Kait Port claimed to have heard a sound in the middle of the sea. "Heard explosions during the day after going to sea. Only heard explosions. Like a thunderbolt," said Yakub, one of the fishermen, quoted by Detikcom. In line with Jacob, other fishermen said they heard the same thud. He heard about 15.00 WIB while at sea. "Around 3 o'clock. The plane did not see. Just heard it. Because of the dark rain and wind. You know, boom ... just once," said Sholeh. The police also conducted a search regarding the Sriwijaya Air SJ182 aircraft which lost contact in the Thousand Islands. The police received information on the sound of a thump around Male Island this afternoon. "There was information from fishermen around Male Island at around 15.00 WIB, east of Male Island, there were those who heard a sound like lightning, then an explosion, yes that was the boom," said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus, Saturday (9/1 / 2021).

 3. Fishermen of Lancang Island See Flying Debris Lancang Island fisherman, Hendrik Mulyadi, told of the moments when he watched the Sriwijaya Air SJ182 plane crash. Hendrik is at the location that is strongly suspected of being the crash site with two of his colleagues who are crew members on the crab search ship. "At that time it was raining quite big (possibly foggy), and the three of us in the middle of the sea were concentrating on taking the bubu (crab catcher), suddenly there was like a lightning bolt towards the water followed by a loud bang, debris flying at the water (the waves) were very high, fortunately my ship is okay, "said Hendrik, as quoted by Detik from the Indonesian news agency, Antara, Monday (11/1/2021). After the series of events that lasted under two minutes, Hendrik admitted that he and two of his colleagues could do nothing but wonder what was going on and thought it was a bomb that fell and exploded. But strangely, according to Hendrik, just before the incident, there was no sound of the aircraft engine before the loud bang and no flames could be seen immediately after the loud bang. "The sound of the engine was not there. Then when the incident occurred there was no fire, only white smoke, flying debris, the water was choppy, and there was a smell like fuel," he said. Even though he was not injured and his boat was not damaged, Hendrik admitted that he was still shaken, so he did not feel good about eating and sleeping so he could not work to find the crab like before.

4. Residents' Houses Tremble A resident of Lancang Island, Junaenah (40), gave testimony when the Sriwjaya Air SJ182 incident crashed in the Thousand Islands. He admitted that he heard a thundering sound like lightning that shook the windows of the residents' houses. "That day it was raining mixed with strong winds, suddenly there was a 'clatter' sound so loud that the house (glass) shook," said Junaenah, still quoted by the Indonesian news agency Antara, Monday (11/1/2021). According to Junaenah, at that time, the situation was no different, there were people who went to sea, looking for small crabs (a type of crab), with most of the people inside their houses sheltering from the rain. Junaenah's house is about 200 meters from the beach. "When I heard I was shocked: O Allah, what was that sound, because it was so big like a bomb. But my children and I did not come out because I thought it was only lightning in the rain," he said. Finally, news of the real incident came and spread around 16.00 WIB, after the Ministry of Transportation's announcement that a Sriwijaya Air airline had lost contact around the waters of the Thousand Islands. The news was also reinforced by other residents returning from fishing. From the news brought by fishermen who went to sea, the residents of Lancang Island learned that the explosion came from a plane that had an unfortunate incident crashing between their place and the uninhabited island of Laki. "The fisherman who just returned home informed that there (the waters of Lancang Island-Male Island) a plane crashed. I immediately remembered oh maybe it was this afternoon (when it rained) I thought the lightning was very big," said Marsu, Chairman of RT 001 / RW 001 Lancang Island. Marsu said that when he got the news, many residents of Lancang Island were deployed to search and evacuate the crash site, which was found to belong to Sriwijaya Air on the Jakarta-Pontianak route with the PK-CLC register number. "Finally, the authorities here took the initiative to gather residents and search as much as possible until it was stopped at around 21.00 WIB," said Marsu.
